We head out again, generally we have a plan, but sometimes we just head out and walk, we might have a destination in mind, or we might just be walking. Today though turns into a very special day as I finally entice Mardi into Tiffany and Co for a genuine look around, our goal an eternity ring.

More of that later.

We spend the day simply wandering. Our favourite part of New York is the ease with which you can just wander, pretty much anywhere and there is always something to see, somewhere to sit and let the day wash over you, a real holiday. People often say New York is a bustling city with no rest, but there are plenty of places to stop. And we find them all. Little parks, tranquil spaces away from the honking horns, jack hammers and hordes of people. A little café, where a quiet corner awaits as we enjoy a hot chocolate or afternoon tea. Today is very much like that. Memorable and forgettable at the same time.

After a day of wandering we head home for a break. We then head out to Tiffany and Co.

The thing that struck me most about Tiffany is how quickly the staff can discern serious shoppers, from the tourists just having a look around. Within ten minutes, we’d been identified as serious shoppers and were shown to a room, offered champagne and shown literally hundreds of eternity rings. We were looking for a specific style and design, that would match Mardi’s weeding ring and engagement ring. This was going to take a while! But the experienced jeweler was able to quickly narrow down our search and find a few options to choose from. We looked, with a healthy amount of oo’ing and ah‘ing as beautiful piece after beautiful piece was shown to us.

We eventually settled on a match: a match to Mardi’s rings and a match to our budget! We celebrated with some more champagne and sat for a while as the “transaction” was processed. The staff, setting, quality product is second to none and it was a wonderful experience.

We leave Tiffany, Mardi’s new bling on her finger as we venture to the Apple Store for a quick look around before walking back to 34th Street. We have some Mexican for dinner on the way.

We then visit the top of the Empire State Building. A romantic end to a great day. We watch the lights of the city shine from where we are standing to eternity. We wander to each corner, looking in all directions. The partially complete so called Freedom Tower looms large in the distance to the south as Brooklyn sprawls to our left and Jersey to our right. We finally leave the viewing deck and wander to the exit, taking the express lift back to the ground and head home for the night.
