As we headed out we were treated to a clear but cool day. We had planned to walk the high line, but the wind was whipping down the Hudson so we instead opted to walk through Chelsea markets.

We started first though with brunch at the Cookshop.

We also explored some of the shops in this area. Around 16th to 20th streets along Ninth avenue. It’s amazing how quickly this area changes from industrial run down boarded up store fronts to chic wood panelled boutique stores in the space of ten metres.

Brunch was yum, Mardi had oysters and a steak sandwich, I had squid and a burger.

After lunch we walked to Chelsea markets, which is located in an old factory building on 16th street and Eighth avenue. It is also directly opposite Google’s NYC headquarters, which is also an old factory building.

We walked the markets for a few hours. Enjoying the hand made wares, some donuts – I had peppercorn and peanut butter sugared donuts, Mardi had traditional. We also bought some of our favourite chocolate milk from Ronny Brooke farm. Yum. Yum. We looked at the fruit, nuts, spices and designer jewellery and hand made crafts. A great walk. It wasn’t too busy being a Friday, which was good. The weekends are pretty furious here.

After the markets we went downtown a bit to a cosmetic shop Mardi was keen to look at. We walked along Broadway and Prince streets.

We then caught the subway home. It was icy cold and we had lots planned for the weekend, so had dinner in and took it easy. I watched the cricket and witnessed Australia’s great victory against India.
