We woke to storms and humidity. A lazy morning followed by another breakfast in the bustling market place. We sit and watch the maddening crowd.

After breakfast, Mardi takes it easy and I go for a photo walk.

Within minutes of leaving the hotel the rains starts tumbling down. I’m sequestered under a freeway watching the rain for about an hour. The odd passer by braces before venturing into the abyss. The rain obliterates Hong Kong island, it’s as if it doesn’t exist. I stand and watch and grab my chance when the clouds break.

I walk for a while, taking photos here and there. A dragon, a pig, Jet Li.

I wonder into Tsim Sha Tsui. The tiny streets, high rise apartments noisy crowds envelope me. I wander for about an hour. Denying the offer of cheap suits, tailor made shirts and great watches – just like originals. Thanks, but no. I hunt for Ribena lilies for a friend. Wander through a modern shopping center, before rendering the bustling streets.

I look up and wonder where I am. Lost. Perhaps. The windy streets have meant I’m not where I thought I was. I text Mardi, check google maps. The high rise buildings blocks the gps and I can’t work out exactly where I am. I walk a little more and head where I think our hotel is. Past the Audi Centre, nice. Soon familiar sights appear, the science museum, the raised walkways, the fence with dinosaurs on it. All the little marker points I use to get and keep my bearings.

I arrive back at the hotel and we settle into the lounge for a while as massive storms rumble through. Mardi takes advantage of a spa treatment and I chill out on the couch, taking it easy.

We enjoy afternoon tea in the lounge. Another assortment of tasty delights. The storms continue as we make plans for a night out.

We leave the hotel around 5 to catch up with Stephen, a friend of ours who we worked with at RSPCA a few years ago. Stephen is now based in Hong Kong and works on TNR programs as well as being an aquatic vet.

We meet him in pacific place, a massive shopping centre in central Hong Kong. We wander the shops after meeting Stephen and look at all the high class goods on offer. Million dollar watch safes for multi million dollar watches, scotch whisky at $35,000 a bottle. Amazing stuff.

Stephen takes us to a nice restaurant and we enjoy an eight course meal. We let Stephen order, local knowledge goes a long way. A beautiful array of traditional dishes as we sit for a couple of hours and catch up.

Eventually we head home, jumping in a cab for the 15 minute trip back to Kowloon, where we settle in for the night.
