Tuesday marked the anniversary of the assassination of JFK, the TV was blazed with special after special, rom conspiracy theorists, to people who were there, modern day detectives and historians.

The weather was cold, but fine.

We are in the middle of a mini cold snap with temperatures hovering between zero and five degrees. We walk past bus shelters that say the temperature is currently 35 and think of home which is sweltering through some high Celsius days, here in old Fahrenheit land the 30s mean cold.

We use the cold weather as a way to get our culture on and visit a few museums. Tomorrow the MET, today the Cooper Hewatt.

The Cooper is a museum dedicated to design and is established in a magnificent old home built by the Carnegie’s. Andrew. A magnificent example of an early 20th century manor house, Edwardian if we were in England.

Not withstanding the glorious house and its magnificent rooms, ornate in every aspect, except of course for the quarters occupied by the staff, on the fourth floor, the exhibits are intriguing and interesting.

From modern 1980s furniture and electronics designed for a future world that look like nothing we use today, to 1960s furniture elegant in its simplicity.

From artwork from the 1500 and 1600 that underlines our fascination with animals and fantastic beasts, quite apt given the release of the movie by the same name.

We wander and play with the technology. On arrival we are given a pen, check out the photos of Mardi using it on the touch screens.

It allows you to capture information about exhibits and build your own personal website of the things you are most interested in for later viewing, reading and research. It is very cool technology.

I also use my pen to do some of the kids stuff and design furniture and buildings on the touch screens, check out my design of a new NYC building!

We wander for a couple of hours and then sit down and enjoy a quick afternoon tea, As sunset comes we venture home in preparation for our dinner out at Eleven Madison Park.

When it’s time for dinner we get dressed up a bit and head out to 23rd and Madison. Eleven Madison is the name and address of the restaurant. We love our night here, pure indulgence for about four hours. The food as always is beautiful and magically presented. Some theatre and magic at the table, twists on common themes presented in intriguing ways with each course having a back story as we build on the NYC theme.

As dessert arrives we are full, but not over full. We enjoy an excellent dessert wine, tea, chocolate and pretzels. We eventually drag ourselves away, well after midnight and decide to splurge on a cab home. It’s below freezing and the icy wind is cutting. We find s cab in about ten seconds, gotta love NYC for that and are home in about ten minutes.

A perfect evening.
