I started the day with Robert as Mardi took it easy. Robert was keen to discover the Seinfeld Restaurant. So we met up at our hotel and took the subway up to 112th Street. We discover Tom’s Restaurant and Robert poses for Selfies and photos in front of it. hes a big Seinfeld fan and regales me with story after story from episodes he’d watched.

We then walk along 112th to St John the Divine, a massive Gothic church, that is forever being rebuilt. We wander around the outside, then venture inside and admire the massive stained glass windows. Without a closer inspections, you’d think they were hundreds of years old. But some obvious modern day panels exists, which make these windows a few years old. Check out the photos.

We visit the courtyard outside the church, which is full of interesting and bizarre sculptures. Christ in the Shroud of Turin lying on a park bench is the centre peace.

We then catch the train way back down town to the Staten Island ferry terminal. We enter the terminal and wait to board the Ferry. Robert is keen to see the Statue of Liberty and this is a good way to see it up close, for free!

The ferry ride takes around 25 minutes and we stand outside, in the freezing cold, taking in the view. It is a spectacular day, the sun is shining, the sky is clear blue, but the wind is icy on the water. We pass the statue and continue our journey to Staten Island. We see a very large passenger cruise liner in dock and take in the enormity of this part of the Hudson river, noticing how many boats, pleasure craft, water-taxis, barges, yachts are out on the water.

We arrive at Staten Island and walk around the DFO for a while.

We then catch the return ferry and arrange to meet Mardi at 14th Street for a walk along the High Line.

The High Line is a highlight of our visit to New York. Forever changing, lined with interesting sculptures and immersed in the ever changing city skyline, there is always somrthing new to discover and explore. We walk from 14th Street up to 30th Street and return to 20th Street.

We are hungry and it is time for lunch after a busy morning..

We eventually depart the High Line and join the streets at 20th.  Our restaurant is across the road, Cookshop. We enjoy a lazy lunch after a short wait for our table. After lunch we wander from 20th to 23rd. We pass the Flatiron building, my favourite, which sadly is wrapped in scaffold as it undergoes cleaning and repair. Next year I’ll see it all renewed!

We then slowly wander the streets from 23rd to 4th, across town from Madison to 5th. Stopping for coffee and cake along the way.  Robert and I pop into Best Buy, before Mardi and I head home and Robert heads home.

A long and busy day, some 13kms of walking and some interesting sites.
