We awoke Sunday looking forward to dinner at Eleven Madison Park. Only our second visit in six years, Eleven Madison is such a nice restaurant offering a delicious 13 course tasting menu. But before dinner we needed to work up an appetite so we went wandering in the Grand Central precinct and up along 3rd avenue. We had an early light lunch at Five Guys.

We bought some beautiful scented candles and some cat beds.An eclectic mix of purchases, but we can’t forget about our cats. The beds are cool zip up tubes that we think the cats at home will love. We bought three of them, now to get them home!

After a couple of hours walking around we headed home for a break before dinner. Our booking wasn’t until quite late 9.45pm.

Mardi did some reading and I spent some time in the hotel gym. It’s handy having a gym so close and I’ve been able to spend some time up there. It’s a great chance to listen to some music.

We got dressed for dinner and hopped on the subway for 23rd street. We arrived right on time and were seated almost immediately. They welcomed us back and eased me a happy birthday – Mardi had pre warned them.

Each course was a delight, from the savoury biscuit starter to the honey and milk dessert 13 course later. We were taken on a journey with most dished prepared at the table with a back story explaining the history and development of the dish. Waldorf sale, eggs Benedict and pretzels like you’ve never had before.

We finished about three hours later with a gift of chocolate for my birthday and some gorgeous granola to take home for breakfast. A wonderful night.

We pondered doing a Christmas lights walk. But it was almost 1am and we were pretty stuffed, so we headed home.
