Today we continue our walk along Broadway. Today we commence at Canal Street, where we left off yesterday. It’s a bit cooler today and there’s a strong wind going down Broadway keeping us quite cool. When we arrive at Waverley Place we turn right and visit Washington Square Park and Washington Arch.
We stroll through Washington Square Park on this sunny yet windy autumn day, the vibrant energy of the park is unmistakable. The air carries a crispness typical of fall, making the colorful leaves rustle and dance above us. Students from NYU are scattered throughout, some lounging on the benches, others gathered in animated groups, and a few focused on their studies or immersed in lively conversations.
The iconic Washington Square Arch stands proudly at the park’s northern entrance. Its grand marble structure, adorned with intricate carvings, serves as a backdrop for countless photos and a meeting point for friends. As we walk closer, we can see the play of light and shadow on the Arch, enhancing its majestic details. North through the arch you can see the iconic Empire State building and by turning 180° and looking south you can see the World Trade Centre.
Musicians and street performers add a melodic soundtrack to our walk, their sounds mingling with the breeze. The park buzzes with life and creativity, embodying the spirit of New York City itself. This vibrant atmosphere, combined with the beauty of the autumn landscape, makes Washington Square Park a quintessential New York experience.

After our walk through the park, we walk to Waverley Place in search of lunch. There’s a little French Cafe we know. Damn it’s closed until Thursday, we will come back. We then locate a diner for a quick bite and rest.
After lunch we head back to Broadway and continue our walk. We walk through SOHO as we pass East 10th, the point where Broadway angles West and starts is winding way up Manhattan. We continue to 14th Street and stop at Union Square.
we are meeting Bob and Cathy later, so head home for a break.
at 6.00pm, we head off to 42nd and 10th. We meet Bob and Cathy at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre. Cathy got tickets to a show called “Another Shot”.
Another Shot is a darkly funny comedy that takes sobriety seriously, based loosely on the real-life experiences of Chicago sports radio personality Harry Teinowitz, whose career and life were put in jeopardy following an arrest for DUI. Co-written by former ESPN personality and playwright Spike Manton (Leaving Iowa), Another Shot tells the outrageous, infuriating and hilarious story of an alcoholic on the edge of blowing up his life when he finally confronts the inarguable truth of his behaviour and how it is affecting his family, his life, and his liver.
We enjoy the play very much, and the four of us then go to dinner. We enjoy delicious Chinese at OLLIE’S SICHUAN. It’s always great fun catching up with Bob and Cathy. Although we only see them when we are in NYC it’s like we see them all the time. So much yo talk about and catch up on.
after dinner we walk home, it’s quite cold, but fine for the 15 minute walk home.
