We head out for lunch in the early afternoon and go to the Bryant Street Grill. It is a restaurant located at the rear of the library, which backs onto Bryant Park. We enjoy fish and chips and a lobster roll. My fish and chips are served on what appears to be a newspaper, mimicking the way fish and chips were served in the old days!

Mardi examines the paper for me, which carries a number of false, yet humourous stories about local New York identities.

We then ride the subway uptown to 135th Street. We go to Riverside Park. It’s another place I can look down and explore the outlook without effecting my eye. It was quite a hazy day, with low cloud hanging over the view to New Jersey. We wandered through the park. We also wandered the streets, its an area of Manhattan we haven’t previously visited. Our walk takes us on from 135th Street to well into the 140s. we also walk across town a few blocks as we explore. The area is quite different to what we witnessed yesterday as we walked 5thAvenue.

As we walk we also notice a number of Halloween decorations. In Australia we don’t’ celebrate Halloween, but here it seems it is very big. Brownstone after brownstone is decorated with webs, skeletons, spiders and hundreds and hundreds of pumpkins are evident everywhere.

We also notice in the stores a lot of themes emerging: we see owls everywhere as well as a healthy serving of orange coloured clothing, bags and knick-knacks.

We make our way home and take it easy.
