After a late night out last night we had a bit of a sleep in and didn’t get going until midday. Ahh, the joy of a holiday when you don’t need to get up early. We eventually wander out to lunch at the New York beer company. A nice little sports bar and restaurant not too far from us.

Mardi had a burger and I had nachos, yum.

My favorite food of all and this one was pretty good. After lunch we spent some time wandering around the local area, including a bit of a walk down Fifth Avenue. We haven’t done a lot of shopping or spent much time along Fifth, and it was nice to walk slowly down the wide avenue watching the crowd and window shopping.

We headed back to the room for a while as the weather got really cold and the wind picked up.

Later that evening we ventured out again after dinner in our room. We walked to the corner of 6th and 43rd, the best place for a photo of the Empire State Building. I’ve taken a few photos from here before. The building changes light Colours fairly regularly and to tonight the Colours were red and green. As much as I’d like to think they were celebrating everything South Sydney Rabbitohs, the Colours depicted the premiere of the Christmas spectacular stage show.

I took a few photos and we continued walking around. The weather had improved and the evening was now a mild and clear, pleasant night. We walked to Times Square and picked up a jot chocolate and sat in the square and watched the crowd. The Disney characters were out again offering hugs and photos for a dollar and the never ending stream of tourists stood in front of a massive screen that had a selfie camera attached. Each day, night, well, every minute of every day a large crowd gathers in area about 10 meters wide and give entree deep in an attempt to see themselves in a massive digital video screen hung in Times Square. The revlon company uses it as advertising space and it is always packed. People run and rush to squeeze into the space to get a glimpse of themselves, then they take photos, do Ellis see is a crowd of people with comers facing the screen. Bizarre.

After we finished our drinks we headed home. Another great, relaxing day. We’ve got a few busy days coming up with a Billy Joel concert, a Broadway musical called Something Rotten, dinner with Bob, a walking tour and visit to the eye doctor in the next few days.
