Thanksgiving in the USA and NYC certainly joins the celebration. The Macy’s thanksgiving day parade is broadcast live, much like a footy final. I watch some of the parade on TV and then venture downstairs and up 44th St 50 metres and watch it live.

The air is cool and the sun is shining. As I walk up 44th St, normally a relatively quiet street, the sidewalk becomes choked with people. The street is closed so I walk on the road. About 20 metres from the corner I stop. There is no way through the dense crowd. Families, locals, tourists, police, media, you name it, people are here watching the parade. Balloons and marching bands pass along 44th st on their way to 34th and Macy’s. Their journey beginning around 81st St. The 50 block parade taking around and hour to traverse its length.

The mood is ebullient, people are wishing each other a Happy Thanksgiving. It’s a holiday that unites everyone with no ties to any one cause or religion. It is really a wholesome happy and unifying day. I enjoy mingling with the crowd, chatting to people and scoring a free Sesame Street hat.

I wander back to tithe hotel and Mardi and I head out to lunch.

We head downtown to Wall St and venture 70 floors up to Manhatta for a special Thanksgiving lunch. We enjoy beets, turkey, lobster, pecan and apple pie. After lunch we wander around the deserted financial district, before heading home.

We both enjoy an afternoon nap on the couch, a combination of cold weather, cocktails, good food and a busy trip catching up on us. Mardi is also feeling a little unwell, so we take it easy. Dinner is takeaway Pizza and a quiet night of TV.
