We head out today, again overcast and a little stormy, but mild and on the side of warm and walk to Grand Central Terminal. We experienced this exquisite building last time we were here so wanted to come back for a more thorough look around. We wander the various levels of shops and spend a lot of time in the main concourse. We explore the ceiling, with its milky way rendition and green and white. We notice a number of tiny tiles that are pitch black and later learn this is what the ceiling looked like before it was cleaned. The black, caused during the steam age is a result of years, decades, of steam engine traffic through the station. These tiles were left as a homage to yesteryear.

We leave and make our way to Lehman Park, a small park between 6th and 7th that joins 48th with 49th. There is a cylindrical tunnel made of thick glass that passes through a building and a fountain. It’s one of those calming spaces that gives you relief from the bustling  city.

We wander up and down the streets, enjoy a burger for lunch in the bowels of the Rockefeller Centre before we head up to the dead zoo: Mardi’s pet name for the natural history museum.

We spend the afternoon wandering the dinosaur exhibits. I love dinosaurs and enjoy wandering and learning about natural history.

After our visit we heads off to another show, It’s Nice Work If You Can Get It. More here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nice_Work_If_You_Can_Get_It_(musical)

Matthew Broderick is the star. Again, a little gem with a well know Hollywood actor taking a break from movies and trying their hand at a musical. It’s a love story set during the prohibition era in 1927, both hilarious with great musical numbers and an intriguing story about booze, the underworld and love in a bygone era.
