We venture out today for brunch to a little cafe down in Soho. It’s called Jack’s Wife Freda. We catch the subway downtown to Spring St and walk a few minutes and enjoy brunch. Eggs, avocado, haloumi for me and a Madam Freda for Mardi. We sit and chat and watch the ebb and flow of the busy cafe.

After breakfast we walk Soho: Spring Street, Prince Street, Broadway, Lafayette Street and so many in between. We look in stores and admire the architecture on display. Every building is ornately different, with gothic images, cast iron and intricate designs. Shop displays are elegant and bizarre, weird and interesting. We buy some shoes and explore a number of other stores, mostly intrigued by the external facades.

Unfortunately, just like yesterday, Mardi’s toe is causing her some pain. Worse today. We decide to head back uptown and visit a medical clinic.

We visited this same clinic in 2019 when Mardi was suffering from a wicked sinus infection.

We fill in the iPad, seemingly hundreds of questions, and take a seat. The waiting room is filled with what is best described as an interesting collection of people. We mask up and sit on a vacant row of seats.

Thankfully the wait isn’t too long. Mardi sees a nurse then a doctor. Her toe is drained and x-rayed. The doctor is worried about necrotising fasciitis.

What? The flesh eating microbe!

Hopefully nothing that severe. But she gets an all clear from x-ray. Some rest and some strong antibiotics and she will be good to go. We head to the pharmacy for some drugs and alcohol wipes.

If feels like hours since brunch, it is, it’s almost 4pm. We nick into Shake Shack and grab a burger to go. An evening of rest and let’s see what tomorrow brings.
