Today we go a little uptown and explore the Lincoln Centre. A little later we have a pre-arranged tour of Central Park with a guide.

The Lincoln Centre is located on 63rd St, between Amsterdam and Columbus. It’s just west of Central Park. The centre houses all forms of performing arts and has dedicated theatres for ballet, opera, orchestra, musical etc. It takes up an entire block, if not more as the buildings sprawl around a large central plaza with large fountain. We wander around exploring and discovering.

We head to Central Park for lunch and enjoy a quick burger at the Boathouse before our tour. We sit and watch the crowd pass and birds steal scraps from tables.

When the time arrives, we move across to Central Park to meet our guide.

Surprisingly our guide is Bob. The same guide that took us through Chelsea a couple of days ago. We chat to him as we wait for others to come and somehow the three of us strike a nerve as the conversation flows easily. We begin our tour and Bob takes us on a journey through the park and through the ages.

His stories are interesting, funny and really shine a light on the Central Park of today and yesterday. From New York’s finest walking the Mall in the 1800s, to the conservancy cleaning up the park in the 1970s, to the Hollywood movies that contribute so heavily to use the space for some of Hollywood’s biggest movies.

We wander for around 30 blocks as we dart in and out of spaces: The literary mall, statues, Bethesda Fountain, the Meadow, the Ramble, Belvedere Castle, the zoo and a dozen other spaces.

The tour takes around three hours and at the end we hang back and chat to Bob about other tours he may offer. We’ve really struck a chord with him and hope to see him again on another tour soon.

We part ways and we go exploring in the park on our own for a while. We locate Still Hunt, the statue we found last year that intrigued and interested us so much. We look at it a little differently under grey skies and in the midst of autumn.

We wander home along 5th Avenue and do some shopping. We pop into Uniglo, Banana Republic, Gap, Levi’s and Duane Reade. We order some dine in from Seamless, delicious tacos, and take it easy for a night.
