We set out on Tuesday, an overcast but mild day to catch up with our good friend Bob. We met Bob a couple of years ago during a couple of walking NYC tours. We immediately hit it off on our second tour of Central Park with Bob after a Chelsea markets tour in 2012. We stayed in touch and in 2013 caught up again.
We met Bob yesterday outside the Plaza Hotel and explored this magnificent building.
We then wandered in and around this area for a while and made it to the Christie’s Auction house near the Rockefeller Centre. Wow. We never knew this place existed. Lots and lots of things being readied for the next auction, including an original Apple 1, with an expected sale price of around $500,000. Normally with these types of things on display it would be like a museum, but this was essentially a shop with lots of expensive things, including original Roman artefacts with price tags topping a million dollars. Some amazing pieces.
We enjoyed lunch at Burger Heaven on East 53rd Street. So many yummy burger places to choose from. We then wandered Fifth Avenue and took in the Christmas lights and Christmas windows displays. Some awesome windows.
We are thrilled to be joining Bob and his family for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. And we are very much looking forward to the experience.
We spent a bit of time in our hotel room chatting about NYC with Bob before he headed off for a Woolworth building tour and we got ready to go to a show
We saw the Book of Mormon. An outrageously irreverent satirical show about Mormons and the quest to educate the Ugandans in the ways of Christ. Written by the folks who bring us South Park it featured an array of bizarre characters including Hitler, Yoda, Ghengis Khan, Uhura, Darth Vadar, Jesus, Jeffrey Dahmer, the devil and some characters from Lord of the
Rings. Not to mention the army of Mormons and wonderfully happy Ugandans. The show was fantastic and had us in stitches.
After the show we had dinner on 9th Avenue at Bocca De Bacca. A yummy Italian place where we had pasta and a couple of cocktails. Yum.
We wandered back to the hotel via Times Square and took in the synchronised digital billboard display at 11.57pm. It wasn’t much, but interesting to see.
Snow is forecast for tomorrow and we have a planned trip to Brooklyn.
