We woke on Thanksgiving with the weather forecast suggesting a maximum day time temperature of -17 degrees Celsius. What? Wow, that’s cold.

Nonetheless I headed out early for a look at the parade, and yes I could confirm it was cold!

We then headed downtown. Mardi had booked a lovely lunch for us at a restaurant called Manhatta. It was located in a tall building in the financial district and offered sweeping views of the East River.

We arrived a little early for our reservation and decided to walk around the East River promenade. Did I say it was cold? Far out, it was freezing. We walked towards the Brooklyn Bridge and took some photos of the water, buildings and surrounding areas. We headed back after a while and made our way to the 71st floor for lunch. We were warmly greeted, both by the staff and the wonderful surrounds. We were shown to our table, a window seat with a panoramic view of the East River with the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge stoically standing in defiance of the cold surrounding them.

We take our seats and catch our breath before ordering a warming cocktail. Before too long we order and enjoy a sumptuous three course Thanksgiving themed dinner.  Turkey, lobster, pumpkin pie with all of the fixings. We enjoy some champagne and a few more cocktails. We finish our dessert and move to the bar.  It’s just way too cold to venture out yet.

We sit and order another cocktail, then another, then another! We enjoy the surroundings and view and the staff are enjoying our company as each cocktail adds another laying to the Aussies in the corner having a good time.

The afternoon slips to evening as we slip into a warming alcohol infused blanket. When we feel we are fortified enough we venture into the street and back home.

We make it and feel like keeping the party going, although it’s only a party of two. But anyway, we head across the road to the Sports Bar. We watch some of the American Football on TV, while grabbing a few more drinks and some snacks. Good friends of ours from Australia are in Texas at the same time doing exactly what we are doing. We text and message them as we enjoy the evening.

We eventually call it a day and what a day.
