After a week of walking around 15,000 steps a day plus Mardi’s infected toe take a toll on our energy levels and we decide today to take it easy and rest our legs a bit.

Well. That didn’t go to plan.

Our plan was to quickly go to Brooklyn for a bagel. We arrive in the morning after catching the F train. The streets are packed with a combination of tourists and locals. Most locals are easily identified. They are walking a dog. The weather is pretty good again, it’s warm in the sun but a little chilly in the shade and a bit breezy. We can feel winter coming on as a few gusts blow right through us.

Our plan is to find a couple of places we went to when we did a food tour in 2016.

The first one is Shelsky’s; a delicious delicatessen with yummy bagels with cream cheese and salmon.

But first we want a drink and search for a juice bar. About a ten minute walk and we find a juice bar.

Making our way to Shelsky’s, we pass three juice bars on the way!

We then search for somewhere to sit and enjoy our bagel and juice. We walk about eight blocks and finally find a seat at Columbus Park. We sit in the sun and enjoy the delicious bagel.

There’s a couple of other places we try to find. Stinky’s, a cheese shop is next. It’s about 10 blocks in a different direction. We aim for a bus but just miss it so decide to walk. When we get there we can’t find it. Another look at Google Maps shows us a note saying it’s permanently closed. As we walk around somewhat disappointed we pass a cat adoption van and we chat to the volunteers. We explore for other stores but alas they are also closed.

We decide to leave Brooklyn and head over to Greenwich Village. We know there is a cheese shop there. Murray’s cheese.

We catch the subway to W 4th street and walk to Murray’s Cheese. We grab some cheese, salami and chocolate milk. Yum.

We then walk past where Bosie used to be. It’s now a French themed wine bar.

Mardi wants to visit a cosmetics shop and we also decide to visit Harney and Sons. Another tea parlour. We need to sit down!

In all we walk for about another hour as we wander through Greenwich village. The streets are teaming with people and traffic and it’s slow going. The sidewalks are skinny and treacherous and Mardi audio describes the obstacles to stop me from tripping over. It’s hard work.

I’m also lugging milk, nuts, cheese, some lipstick, juice, bagels and Salami.

We make it to Harney & Sons. It’s busy as well. We venture to the back and hope for a table. There are none. But wait for it. Someone leaves and Mardi dives in as I go to the counter to order. We enjoy some tea and a scone. But more importantly today we enjoy a rest.

So much for not doing much walking today.

We sit for about an hour before hitting the streets again and finding a subway home.

We both feel like our legs are broken. Our feet are sore and we are leg weary.

We get home and put our feet up. We enjoy a night in eating some of our haul from the day.
