We wanted to see a little bit more of Central Park and as area we hadn’t visited before. We were keen to visit the Museum of New York as well. We ventured up to 110th Street on the subway from 42md St and worked our way back down 5th Avenue along the edge of the Park.

In a few blocks, 60, the city changes completely. 110th street subway was scary. Youths were hanging around at the entrance, some yelled at Mardi as we walked past. They played music and seemed like they had nothing to do but annoy passers-by. When we turned the corner at 110th onto 5th, the fabric of the city changed again and a more familiar New York was presented to us. It is amazing that how in a few short blocks things change so much.

We arrive at the museum on 106th Street and decide to visit the conservancy garden first, which is opposite in the grounds of Central Park. We wander the garden for a couple of hours, marveling at the definition of the garden, with its sleek straight lines and very formal layout, a contrast to the rest of the park.

The park looks magnificent in the late autumn as wander around. Some trees remain full of colour and their reflection across the ponds is beautiful, especially with the gorgeous blue sky in the background.

We enter the museum after our visit to the park and enjoy the exhibits. The highlight is Germ City: a full on exhibit exploring the germs of New York and their history. It is easy how quickly and without notice germs spread and infections quickly arise. Many a time New York has been inundated with varying germ infestations, which in some cases have led to lots and lots of deaths. We also saw an exhibition of Stanley Kubrick photography.

We then made our way back to 59th Street and visited the Museum of Art and Design.

Before vising the museum though, we pop into Bareburger for a quick lunch as we take a break.

This experience wasn’t as fun as the one we just had. Much of what was on display was indeed modern art. We didn’t enjoy it at all.  Weird strands of wall stuck to a wall. Obscure artwork depicting nothing really. I am sure there is a place in our world for all types but not all types are universally admired and appreciated. After a quick wander around, we left and headed out for some dinner.

We wander along 59th Street and walk down 5th Avenue. We see a broken down taxi causing traffic chaos and more chaos is evident as we see the square where the Apple store is completely surrounded in fencing as the store undergoes a major renovation. We then wander down 5th Avenue and across to 50th.

Tonight we visit our favourite Mexican place on 50th.  Toloache. We always enjoy the visit, the food, the atmosphere and the drinks!

After dinner we wander home looking at some shops in Times Square.
