It’s a cool and over cast day with some rain forecast for later this afternoon. We head down to SoHo and look around the shops while the weather is fine before heading into Chinatown. We haven’t spent a lot of time exploring the tiny streets in Chinatown, so decide to wander around.

We are also keen to visit Vanessa’s dumpling house for a meal. We tried once before but it was packed, so are hoping for better luck today. But first an escape room.

For those uninitiated in Escape Rooms, basically, you get locked in a room and have 60 minutes to escape by solving a series of games and puzzles. It’s a lot of fun and we have done many a room in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne, but this is our first in New York. Each room has a theme, ours today is a wild west theme and our goal is to solve puzzles to find out who robbed the local bank and return the cash. We enter and begin the game. I can’t share any of the games with you spry. An hour or so later we emerge, victorious having solved all the puzzles in the allotted time.

When we leave, the rain is coming down in buckets. It is pouring, the gutters are running like rapids and waters spills into the drains, barely keeping up with the downpour.

We walk to Vanessa’s, its late afternoon, so is pretty quiet and we secure a table and settle in for some delicious dumplings and to allow the rain to ease. We sit for an hour or so; we contemplate doing another escape room but decide against it.

The rain doesn’t ease, so we venture out into it anyway and walk around for a bit.  After a few minutes we look at each other and silently agree it’s time to head home.
