After the heavens opened yesterday and drenched us, the sun does its best to drench us in beautiful sunshine today, albeit with little warmth.

We venture up town with a plan to visit The Met. Before entering though we spend a little time at the northern end of the complex exploring Osborne Gardens, which are also part of Central Park. We find fences and gates adorned with little critters. The Gardens are an ancient playground with scampering squirrels, charming foxes, and other animals from Aesop’s Fables. One of the most important pieces of art in Central Park, the gates were created by renowned sculptor Paul Manship, most famous for the Prometheus statue at the Rockefeller Centre Skating Rink

We see mice, frogs and squirrels standing stoically upright as they peruse their surrounds.  We happen across a pair of rats engaged in animated discussions. What are they discussing? It looks as if the rat on the right is a traveler, or perhaps a homeless rat. Is he begging to the well dressed rat on the left. Is he asking for directions? Or for help?

The actual story is a little more sinister than that.  Read it here:

We conclude our day with a wonderful jewelry exhibition at The Met, followed by a wonder around for a couple of hours taking in the other exhibits, the ancient Egyptians being our favourite. A quick Pakistani biryani for dinner and we head home.
